Check out the US Patent and Trademark website. It’s www.USPTO.gov. Go to the Trademark tab on the left and click on “Search TM database” and click on “New User Form Search”. That allows you to search for Trademarks and Servicemark easily.
The filing fee for a trademark is only $325.00. It’s worth it for any serious project, but please look into it yourself since we are not an attorneys.
The process can all be done online now and isn’t really that hard. Many of the trademark attorneys at the USPTO will explain things and answer some of your questions after it’s received and assigned to an attorney, but it does take a long time however to actually complete things. About 6 months to go through the review and then it is based on their schedule after that…….the internet has caused a huge number of frivolous TM’s to be filed and they are backlogged. If you need a job, this is an emerging market.
You should be very careful about your recitation of services to avoid sounding to generic or even descriptive. Your application will get rejected.
1-800 or 888 or any version thereof is not in and of itself enough to differentiate a generic word or term. Consider a logo or mark, especially if you have a good vanity.
